Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Dr. Arlene Lazaro, DO brings a rare combination of medical training that has been purposefully built — layer by layer — to offer patients something most practices can’t: care that treats the whole person, restores function, addresses the root causes of pain, and trusts the body’s own capacity to heal.
Her journey didn’t happen by accident. Each step was a deliberate choice to go deeper — to understand not just disease, but the human being experiencing it.
Her foundation begins with osteopathic medicine, a philosophy of care that recognizes the body as an integrated system — not a collection of separate parts. From the very start of her training, she was taught to look beyond symptoms and ask why — how structure, movement, lifestyle, and environment all shape how a person feels and functions. This whole-person lens has never left her. It informs every conversation, every evaluation, and every care plan she creates.
That foundation deepened through her residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), a specialty uniquely focused not just on what’s wrong, but on what’s possible. PM&R physicians are trained to think about the full arc of a person’s life — their roles, their goals, their identity beyond their diagnosis. Whether the aim is returning to work, keeping up with grandchildren, getting back to the gym, or simply moving through the day without bracing for pain — function is always the north star.
Her fellowship in Pain Medicine added the clinical depth and nuance needed to meet chronic pain where it actually lives: in the nervous system, in the brain’s learned patterns, in the intricate interplay between injury, inflammation, psychology, and lived experience. Chronic pain is one of the most misunderstood and undertreated conditions in modern medicine. Dr. Lazaro’s fellowship training ensures she never oversimplifies it — and never dismisses the patient carrying it.
Lifestyle Medicine brought it all full circle. It is the evidence-based recognition that the most powerful tools for healing aren’t always found in a prescription — they’re found in how we move, what we eat, how we sleep, how we manage stress, and how connected we feel to the people and purpose around us. The body, given the right conditions, has a remarkable capacity to repair, adapt, and thrive. Lifestyle Medicine is the science of creating those conditions.
At KAYA Lifestyle Medicine, these four pillars don’t just inform Dr. Lazaro’s philosophy — they are the architecture of every program she offers. Patients here aren’t managed. They’re guided, supported, and empowered to become active participants in their own healing.
Because that’s what medicine, at its best, has always been meant to do.

Care as a Process
OUR APPROACH
Kaya delivers care as a sequence, not a single visit. Each step is physician-supervised and builds on the one before.
Evaluation
A thorough physician evaluation — pain history, functional assessment, imaging review, and a clear picture of what's actually happening and what your realistic options are.
01
Candidacy
Not every patient is a candidate for every treatment. Dr. Lazaro makes an honest determination about what is likely to help, and what isn't. This conversation happens before any plan is made.
02
Preparation
A good outcome depends on how well you are prepared. For some patients, this means addressing nutrition, movement, or sleep before a procedure. For others, it means building baseline strength and stability.
03
Treatment or Program
The treatment or program itself — whether a structured Pain & Function plan with physician and coach support, or a PRP procedure embedded in a broader care process.
04
Recovery
What happens after matters as much as what happens during. Recovery is structured, physician-supervised, and designed to protect the gains you've worked to achieve.
05
BOUNDARIES OF PRACTICE
What Kaya Does Not Do
Kaya is not an insurance-based practice. It does not prescribe opioids as a primary pain management strategy. It is not a procedure mill — a physician who performs the same intervention on every patient is not practicing judgment, they are practicing volume. Kaya sees a limited number of patients each week so that each one receives adequate time and careful thought.
Kaya is also not right for every patient. Some situations are better served by surgical care, interventional pain management at a higher level of intensity, or a different model entirely. Dr. Arlene will tell you honestly if Kaya is not the right fit — and, where possible, point you toward what is.
